Programme of arts events for older people

Suffolk Artlink has developed an exciting line-up of arts events and activities for people over 65 who may have difficulties accessing arts events.

A wide range of actvities have been included and will take place across the county. These include:

Home Library Service Book Clubs

Book clubs in libraries across the county provide a stimulating programme of topics to discuss and read around. Free transport is provided to all sessions. A series of creative writing workshops leading to a publication produced by the groups will be included in this years programme. Monthly sessions are currently held in Lowestoft, and Bury St Edmunds. Clubs to start in Woodbridge, Felixstowe, Stowmarket and Halesworth libraries.

Bury St Edmunds Art Gallery workshops

Find our how to get the most from a digital camera and explore your local surroundings creatively at these artist-led photography workshops in Brandon and Haverhill. A follow-up session in the gallery offers the chance to meet and discuss each others work whilst visiting the gallery's newly refurbished exhibition space and coffee lounge. This year this project will work with the mobile library service to deliver the workshops.

East Anglian Traditional Music Trust Performances

Vibrant participatory music events at a range of community venues across the county. The Trust uses traditional instruments, songs, dances and stories to bring the folk traditions of East Anglia to life. If you are a member of a group or club interested in hosting a performance, please contact Suffolk Artlink.

Gainsborough's House art workshops

Outreach workshops in the Sudbury area, coupled with visits to Gainsborough's House, aim to develop painting and drawing skills and create a connection between the beautifully refurbished museum and local groups. Gainsborough's House is the birthplace of Thomas Gainsborough and houses a collection of work from throughout his career as well as varied programme of contemporary exhibitions.
