Arts for people with learning difficulties

Open Doors has received a Big Lottery Reaching Communities grant of £76,945. This will enable the full professional arts training programme for adults with learning difficulties to go ahead over the next 3 years.

Leading up to this project, Suffolk Artlink delivered a series of arts taster days with groups of adults with learning difficulties in a number of locations around the county. These were well attended at each location and some fantastic sounds and movements were produced in the sessions. Following these taster days, Suffolk Artlink hosted a four day intensive course in October covering a range of visual and performing arts at Northgate Arts Centre, Ipswich. The taster days were also delivered again in May 2007 with the focus on storytelling and puppetry. This was extended into a second short course in June held in both Ipswich and Bury St Edmunds.

The Open Doors programme is for people aged 19+ with learning difficulties living in Suffolk, who are interested in improving their creative skills and working within the arts and creative industries.

The 30 week course will begin in September and applications are

being taken now.

An important part of the course is the work placement. If you work for or know of a creative organisation who would be interested in providing a placement then please contact Fran.
