Suffolk Artlink is working in partnership with the Alzheimer’s Society to run creative workshops for people with dementia and their family carers.
Suffolk Artlink have been running creative workshops for people with dementia and their family carers in three locations in Suffolk; Ipswich, Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft.
Ten sessions were delivered in each location giving the groups the opportunity to try a variety of activities such as dance, painting, clay work, singing, movement and reminiscence.
With the help of the Alzheimer’s Society support staff the workshops aim to take away the roles of carer and cared-for allowing the participants to enjoy a shared creative experience. The project also aims to encourage and assist them to try similar activities at home together.
As well as providing an environment in which carers can meet other carers, the project aims to assist the participants to continue in their creativity and get to know arts facilities in their local area which they can access and enjoy.
New locations:
Since the first round of workshops ended, Suffolk Artlink have been meeting with the Alzheimer’s Society to review and develop the project. We are now planning delivery of more creative workshops in Sudbury, Beccles and Felixtowe.
