For hospitalised children, empowering and engaging with them through performing arts.

The Clown Doctor programme places artists in healthcare settings to offer an impartial way of entertaining, supporting and empowering children who may be struggling with issues of fear, boredom, confusion and other insecurities.
Thr Clown Round project has had a successful year of delivery at James Paget, Ipswich and Colchester Hospitals. Our four clown doctors, Dr Fillie Fidget, Dr Christobell Misschief, Dr Hyacinth Haystack and Doctor Professor Hadron Klutz visit the children's wards, engaging outpatients and inpatients in clowning, storytelling, music, magic, circus skills, improvisation, balloons and bubbles, helping to distract young people and their families at what can be a very difficult time.
The Clown Round is now in its second year of delivery, making weekly visits to the children’s wards of the three hospitals in Suffolk, Norfolk and Essex. Clown Round visits to hospices and other children’s wards in the region are also currently being planned.

Following the success of the pilot Clown Round project based at James Paget Hospital, we are very happy to announce that we have funding from BBC Children in Need to begin a three year project.
The new programme works regularly with James Paget, Ipswich and Colchester Hospitals and will also provide Clown Round visits to hospices and other children’s wards in the region.
Tin Arts, an organisation with extensive experience of developing its own Clown Doctor project, will be providing training and mentoring to Suffolk Artlink’s team for the duration of the project.
