Name: Lisa-Marie Hoctor
Can you tell us a little bit about your own practice?
I’m an actor, theatre-maker and freelance drama practitioner. I work a lot in the North of England with my theatre company Mighty Heart Theatre where I create vibrant documentary theatre and tour. I also work in Suffolk and Norfolk with lots of different community groups and fantastic participants of all ages. I’m currently running sessions for babies all the way through to students in their 60s. We use theatre and drama to explore our creative imagination and play!
What’s been your favourite artistic experience of the past 12 months?
Touring Mighty Heart Theatre’s debut show to my village hall in Laxfield, Suffolk. It was a fantastic evening and the audience were so engaged, lively and responsive. We completely sold out and had decorated the hall with flowers, bunting, cake and prosecco! We had a really great time bringing our contemporary theatre to a brand new audience in Suffolk.
Which Suffolk Artlink projects have you worked on to date?
I’m currently embarking on my first, by leading the JumpstART Theatre Arts project in Bury St Edmunds and Lowestoft.
How has working with Suffolk Artlink influenced your work?
The groups I work with are wonderfully diverse and working with Suffolk Artlink is really pushing my workshop facilitating skills into new areas. I’m learning from the brilliant students and having to think on my feet a lot! I’m very passionate about bringing the arts right in to the heart of communities and working with groups to build confidence through creativity and I’m relishing this opportunity to work with Suffolk Artlink.
