Useful National arts sites

Arts Council England East has regional offices which can be accessed through the main web site. They also have a new audiences programme with its own web site, including a number of Suffolk based projects. www.artscouncil.org.uk and www.newaudiences.org.uk

Mailout is the UK network for developing participation in the arts (also has good links section). www.e-mailout.org

Venue Information - Venue accessibility information for different types of arts events can be found on

EtCetera is a weekly international disabiility arts news and opportunities listing - a free service provided by the National Disability Arts Forum UK.  You can find it in pdf format on www.ndaf.org or direct (but beware advertisements!) at www.topica.com/lists/EtCetera/read

Disability Arts Online Celebrates achievements of Uk disability and deaf arts movement with useful links and organisations www.disabilityarts.com

Foundation for Community Dance is the national development agency for community dance in the UK. It works for the development of community dance, and for greater access to high quality community dance for all. www.communitydance.org.uk

 

EQ (formerly Metier) is a national equality and diversity agency working in the creative industries. www.thinkeq.org.uk

 

Youth Arts

Artswork is a national organisation for youth arts.  They publish an excellent series of guidelines on using the arts with different young audiences. They also offer professional development courses and workshops. See www.artswork.org.uk for more information

Age Exchange Reminiscence In house training and consultancy services

The In House Reminiscence Training is ideal for organisations that want to run their own reminiscence project, involving a team of support staff and volunteers. The consultancy service can help organisations to acheive their aims.

 

Arts access agencies in the Eastern Region

Creative Arts East is the Norfolk based arts access agency with an online database of over 100 community artists www.creativeartseast.co.uk

Inspire is the Cambridgeshire based arts access agency which has an online database of community artists . Formerly known as Cross Border Arts. www.inspire.org.uk

Momentum Arts is the Eastern Touring Agency which includes a diversity programme and social inclusion programme www.momentumarts.org.uk


Theatre Resource is based in Essex and has a new website at

General arts information in Suffolk

Suffolk County Council has an Arts Officer who publishes a newsletter called ARTwords about the arts in Suffolk. This is available on-line at the following site: www.suffolkcc.gov.uk/libraries/arts/arts-service.html

Do you want to find out about arts clubs and groups in Suffolk? www.infolink.suffolkcc.gov.uk has a list of 5,000 voluntary organisations in Suffolk. It is possible to search this database with criteria such as 'community artists' or 'drama groups'. Suffolk Artlink is working with Suffolk County Council Libraries and Heritage department to improve the listings on Infolink and to make them more inclusive and accessible.

CRAFT

Suffolk crafts society has a database of 170 members on its website but does not highlight which of these do work with community groups www.suffolkcraftsociety.org

DANCE

Dance East is based in Ipswish and has good regional and local links on www.danceeast.co.uk DanceEast provides regular professional development training, summer schools and residencies.

Foundation for Community Dance is the national organisation for community dance. www.communitydance.co.uk

Jabadao is the centre for the study of movement learning and health. www.jabadao.co.uk


Signdance collective is an international touring Signdance Theatre company based in Buckinghamshire, England and Amsterdam, Holland. They have recently returned from performing in three major European Festivals and throughout this Summer have been working as artists in residence at BBC Birmingham. www.signdancecollective.co.uk


EDUCATION

The Suffolk County Education website is called SLAMnet (Suffolk Learning and Management Network). There is a good Suffolk Contacts section on the arts page www.slamnet.org.uk/art

MUSIC

Sound sense is the National community music organisation with an excellent web site including news for East England. Sound sense runs the National music and disability advice service. www.soundsense.org

This site also has a very good link to an artsEXPLORER search programme

Amplifier is a project running in Suffolk from 2004 to 2007 to encourage more young people aged 11-25 to learn about the music business.  Find out more at www.amplifiersuffolk.co.uk

Other courses for musicians in Eastern region are run by Access to Music from their centres in Norwich and Southend.  See www.accesstomusic.co.uk for more information

Community Music East (CME) run music, recording and multimedia workshops in Norwich and Thetford www.cme.org.uk

THEATRE

Theatre Education Network was established in October '04.  They produce a quarterly magazine and have a website www.theatre-ed.net

Cambridge Arts Theatre regularly has audio-described performances.  Contact the Box Office on Tel: 01223-503333 for more details.

The Big Picture, an interactive DVD drama and website raising issues around disability and inclusivity was launched by Jigsaw Theatre Company in Nov 2004.

MUSEUMS AND GALLERIES

The East of England Museums, Libraries and Archives Council has an excellent new web site. Check out the Learning and Access section and links on www.eemlac.org.uk  The museums, libraries and archives council has a useful list of acess trainers and audit providers www.mla.gov.uk/action/learnacc/trainers_east_england.asp

Another very useful site with good links belongs to MAGDA - the Museums and Galleries Disability Association www.magda.org.uk

The Wolsey Art Gallery, Ipswich has a new site including a directory of artists at www.wolseyartgallery.org.uk.  The gallery organises arts workshops throughout the year.

First Site is Colchester's contemporary art gallery which runs a variety of workshops.  www.firstsite.uk.net

FILM

Screen East, the screen agency for the East of England

Runs a wide range of training events and has a monthly e-bulletin with details of film/video etc opportunities
