Blending, layering – and splodging

I have just spend a glorious day with the Brave Art students, staff and textile artist Shelly, in Lowestoft.

First, Shelly introduced the group to some simple watercolour techniques and everyone mixed and blended and generally had a great time creating all sorts of patterns and images whilst discovering ways to work with the paint.

After that, it was on to the calico and hessian. The students painted onto the fabrics and then cut and layered them. In some cases, they wove the fabrics together and, in other, the fabrics were glued; that’s where the ‘splodging’ comes in.

The end result was amazing. Thank you all for a lovely day, have a great half term and see you in a couple of weeks’ time.
