Lowestoft Folk was a two-year creative intergenerational heritage project, working with school children and residents in local care homes and housing support units. Working with professional artists, the participants explored local folk art items and traditions exhibited in Lowestoft Museum and the Lowestoft Maritime Museum and created their own, contemporary art work in response, adding fresh voices and new interpretations to their local heritage.

Talking Care

Suffolk County Council and Suffolk Artlink worked together with carers in Suffolk to establish how they found the Carer’s Assessment process and what it is like to be a carer. Carers took part in creative sessions which enabled them to express their stories and feelings in new ways. A booklet and a short film have been created to share information and experiences with new carers. More information on carer's assessments including, things to think about, support and help if a carer needs more support, can be found at infolink.suffolk.gov.uk/kb5/suffolk/infolink/advice.page?id=AEbA09iqa0s

A Wonderful Woolly Web

Suffolk at Play is a creative intergenerational reminiscence project, involving residents at Cedrus House Care Home and pupils from the neighbouring Cedars Park Community Primary School. The project started in early January, and here the group is getting to know one another a little better by linking up around the room; it may not be world wide, but it's definitely a wonderful woolly web.

Teddy Terry's Adventures

Film by Terry Gilbert from JumpstART!'s Making Spaces Exhibition Artist Statement "I've created a film about a teddy going to the cinema. I made a model of the perfect cinema where you can have food and drink before you go into the film. The teddy has to get on a bus to get there and this is difficult for him because he can't hear and he can only see a bit. Teddy carries a red and white stick to show that he is deaf/blind. I made this film because I want people to stop and think about what it's like to be deaf/blind."

Wendy's Story

Film by Wendy Rees from JumpstART!'s Making Spaces Exhibition Artist Statement "I wanted to tell the story from the begining, with a nurse in the NHS and what it's like with nurses on the wards now. I am worried because there are not enough staff to care for people properly. I want to make people think about what will happen if the NHS goes private because some people cannot afford more costs. I want people to realise how the cuts have affected the nursing staff. I chose this project because the NHS is precious to this country. We must save it! Save the NHS has involved me creating a costume - a traditional nurse's uniform which I covered in transfers of protest images and information. I made a backdrop of a ward and a nurse's station, I made protest signs as props, I wrote a script, planned a film, made a video and acted out a part."

Space Factor

Film by Andreas Johnson from JumpstART!'s Making Spaces Exhibition Artist Statement "My work is a model and a puppet show of the X-Factor set in space with aliens. I love music, dancing, X-Factor, aliens, space and performing - these are all my favourite things. I built a space stage, some judges and performers and props. I wanted to perform my own puppet show and make a film. I want to create something that makes people laugh and feel happy and feel excited, because that's how I felt when I was making it."

My Bumper Cars

Film by Jonathan Gray from JumpstART!'s Making Spaces Exhibition Artist Statement "I love spending time with my Dad at the fun fair. I like the dodgems best. I like the music and the lights. I like driving cars, it feels great when I turn the steering wheel. I wanted to make bumper cars, I wanted to show the bright lights and the crash, bash, flash!"
