Paul Robert Boast was a talented artist and theatre performer. We were very lucky to have worked with him for 11 years, initially through our Open Doors programme in Ipswich and then most recently through our JumpstART courses in Lowestoft.
As an artist, Paul was focused, persistent and bold in his designs. As a performer, he was strong, determined and entertaining. As a person, Paul was kind, thoughtful and often humorous. He was a man who knew his own mind.
It has been a joy to watch him grow and challenge himself creatively and personally over the years. From a cautious and reticent participant to a strong and willing team player.
Paul often became immersed in his work and was always imaginative in his approach. He loved all things Harry Potter and shared many happy conversations discussing wizards, spells and magic. He also loved superheroes and would often use this as a theme in his own creative work. The image of him as “Power Paul”, loud music playing as he emerged through the clouds, in a recent Theatre Arts course performance will stay with many of us for a long time I’m sure, as will his protest art poster encouraging everyone to “Be Weird!” about which he said: “I wanted to make people feel fine and that anything is ok.”
Paul leaves behind a legacy of artwork as individual and imaginative as he was.
Our thoughts are with Paul’s family at this sad time. He was an asset to our team, a good friend to many and will be sadly missed by us all at Suffolk Artlink.
