This month we bring you community dance artist, Sarah, who used her creative magic to make sure our recent project in care homes across Suffolk was moving in more ways than one.
Name: Sarah Franklin
Can you tell us a little bit about your own practice?
I am a Community Dance Artist. I dance, teach, create and perform. I love to dance, have far too much energy and feel privileged every day to be working in dance with so many different people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds.
I believe that dancing is a fundamental part of being human and that dance should be accessible to everyone, anytime, anyplace, anywhere.
I am passionate about engaging with people creatively through dance and movement. I aim to provide a supportive and fun environment to explore and share, communicate and express and experience the joy of dancing as a social and artistic activity. It has the added bonus of keeping me fit too!
What’s been your favourite artistic experience of the past 12 months?
This year has been a year of exploring and developing dance for and with people living with dementia and their carers. I have really enjoyed the fluidity and improvisational nature of the sessions and the challenge of working in ‘the moment’. It has been such a pleasure to focus on dancing with people and to be able to connect, play and experiment freely through movement.
Which Suffolk Artlink projects have you worked on to date?
I have been very lucky to work as an Our Place artist in residence.
How has working with Suffolk Artlink influenced your work?
The ‘Our Place’ Residency has complimented the development of my work with older people and work in care homes. It was so lovely to explore ideas and creative meanderings with huge amounts of thoughtful and sensitive support. The residency was innovative and challenging and has informed and enriched my practice greatly, I am confident that this experience will continue to inform my work in the years to come. Thank you Suffolk Artlink you are fabulous.
How would you describe Suffolk Artlink in 3 words?
