September’s artist of the month is the lovely Sophie Fox. Fresh from her successful artist residencies this summer as part of Our Place, we’re delighted to have this sensitive, creative and inspiring artist in the Suffolk Artlink family.
Name: Sophie Fox
Can you tell us a little bit about your own practice?
I love working with people. I work across art forms – visual arts, performance, music, anything really! I’m really interested in creating immersive spaces that people can play and create in or become part of. The more I work the less my art is about creating ‘things’ and more about creating an experience, temporary spaces, being responsive, spontaneous and adaptive.
What’s been your favourite artistic experience of the past 12 months?
A highlight from this summer has been working on the Our Place project with Suffolk Artlink. One of my favourite moments was doing a walkabout fancy dress shop in the care home with mirrors, music and lots of clothes, hats and jewellery. All the residents and staff were joining in, dressing up, singing and dancing – my face hurt at the end of that day from so much smiling and laughing – it was pure gold!
Which Suffolk Artlink projects have you worked on to date?
I worked with parents and children in primary schools during Artbase a few years ago, and most recently I was an artist in residence in a number of Suffolk care homes as part of Our Place.
How has working with Suffolk Artlink influenced your work?
Suffolk Artlink is an amazing organisation to be involved with. As an artist I feel fully supported in my role, and able to work on meaningful projects which allow for reflection and learning to take place. I feel able to take risks, experiment and collaborate with others and have the chance to create networks with other artists and develop my thinking and practice.
How would you describe Suffolk Artlink in 3 words?
Fabulous! Fantastic! Fab!
