We have enjoying welcoming two new team members to Suffolk Artlink – Jess Browne and Kasia Don-Daniel. They both join us as our trusty project officer Carrie Phoenix takes some time out on maternity leave.
This month, we’re introducing you to Kasia, an artist we have worked with regularly in the past, who has now made the transition to a fully-fledged member of the Suffolk Artlink team.
What were you doing before you joined Suffolk Artlink?
I was actually working on the other side of the fence as one of Suffolk Artlink’s artists. I run drawing workshops at The Cut and for Suffolk Artlink I have been working on projects such as JumpstART, Creative Company and Step-Up.
Which Suffolk Artlink projects will you be looking after?
I’ll be taking the lead on Around the Table, our project aimed at adult family carers.
What are you most looking forward to in your new role?
I feel very lucky in that I am learning about different cuisine and all the creativity that comes with cooking, celebration and food culture. Last session, we were lucky enough to have Brazilian chef Daniela Paiva treating us to the delights of Brazilian cuisine whilst artist Vicki Johnson led the group in creating the most beautiful paper chandelier for us to dine under – all this to the music of Brazil. I am very excited as we have a really inspiring line-up of artists and chefs for our future sessions. Lucky me!
What’s been your favourite artistic experience of the past 12 months?
Wow, so much has happened over the past 12 months. I had a very special experience working on Waveney and Blyth Art’s Sensing Nature project last year. We worked with visually impaired musicians from Norfolk and Norwich Association for the Blind alongside Jackie Walduck and her band Tactile and composer Adrian Lee to create a site inspired musical composition which became an immersive sound trail performed to the public in Thornham Woods last summer.
How do you enjoy spending your time when you are not at work?
I enjoy being outside, on my bike, with my family, playing, drawing, making, thinking, eating, dancing!
