Meet the Artist: Sophie Johnson

September 10, 2018 by Suffolk Artlink

Sophie JohnsonThis month we’re introducing you to one of our Step Up artists, Sophie Johnson. Throughout this year Sophie has been creating a series of thoughtful and creative illustrations in partnership with Kasia Posen. Their work was exhibited at the Whistler Gallery, Jerwood DanceHouse this summer.

Name: Sophie Johnson

Which Suffolk Artlink projects have you taken part in?

I have taken part in JumpstART courses including Musical Words and Pictures, Protest Arts, Theatre Arts and The Human Body. I enjoyed each project in its own way, for example in Protest Arts I enjoyed the fashion design.

Can you tell us a little bit about the art that you like to make?

I like anything that sparks my imagination. I like to draw and I like to create comics. At home, I like to cut things out or stick them together – in collage or sculpture. I like to make anything out of any sort of art form.

How has Suffolk Artlink helped you to make art?

Suffolk Artlink has helped me explore different art forms. For example song and poetry during Musical Words and Pictures and drama and script writing in Theatre Arts. I love creating stories. Musical Words and Pictures helped me create my own music and Protest Arts showed me the different ways I can get my message across.

How do you feel when you are making art?

Art makes me feel like I am doing something productive with my time. From getting an idea to creating something, to getting something out of it at the end!
