Roly Poly Workshop with Charly Jolly and Maddie Broad

An opportunity to explore and experiment with attunement-based playful approaches used by Charly Jolly and Maddie Broad in their show for under-twos, Roly Poly www.rolypolyshow.com

  • Learn about holding creative and curious spaces for play, with babies, toddlers and young children; and how to celebrate and extend their musicality and expression through play.
  • We will spend the day with our playful selves through a variety of gently-led, enjoyable and practical activities to inspire and nourish your creative Early Years work.
  • We will focus on listening to young children and learn how to extend musicality through attuned interactions. We will also try making our own musical playscapes using simple props from the Roly Poly show!

The session will be led by Charly Jolly and Maddie Broad, two “professional playful people” making sensory performance with babies and their caregivers. Together they create gentle, responsive performance spaces where very young children and their adults can explore, play, relax and enjoy live music together.

In our show Roly Poly we use cardboard props, soft lighting and live instruments to transform community spaces into gentle worlds of sound and movement – designed especially for the youngest audience members. We began developing Roly Poly together in 2024, following work with Magic Acorns. Our shared sense of humour and belief in the power of play sit at the heart of our practice.

The Seagull Theatre’s access information page

    Updated access information

The Seagull is wheelchair accessible in studio 4 (the down stairs studio) the theatre, workhshop and backstage areas. All of this is flat level access, including through to the accessible loo.
The upper floor can be accessed via the lift which provides direct access to studio 2. Access to studio 1 and Studio 3 is also possible without further steps, but doorways are relatively narrow.
Sadly the access to the green room and the two upstairs toilets is still via further stairs so we recommend that people use the lift to access the downstairs accessible toilet instead.
