Press the clay model made last week firmly into the packed sand

Sam and Ellie poured melted pewter into the mould

and used a blow torch to make sure it was ‘cooked’ enough.

Wearing huge ’oven’ gloves, the pewter model was turned out

Over the last week, the plaster cast has dried. Ellie and Sam turned it out of the clay mould for the children to see their beautiful work.

The children take it in turns to sift the sand into the mould. After this, they will press their clay mould into the sand.

The clay mould is removed and Sam and Ellie pour molten pewter into the shape left in the sand.

The children tap the pewter, to see if it’s ‘cooked’ enough.
