Layers of history

This week, at the Long Shop, we examined photographs of football teams, some dating back to 1910, along with descriptions of some of the players.

We discovered that Leiston Town Football Club players during the 1912/13 season included Walter Bedwell, an ‘expert chicken breeder’ and Frank Airey, who worked in the Boiler Shop and was ‘a very nice chap personally’.

Amongst the other players were Bill Powell, sometime landlord of the White Horse Hotel, and Jack Wall, who also worked in the Boiler Shop. He was a ‘flamboyant man and player’, one of the ‘finest centre forwards’ and was capped for Suffolk.

Combining layers of objects, tracings of old photographs and elements from their work last week, the team produced a series of new cyanotypes -and then stood back to admire them.
