Cloud gazing
Another amazing, cloud-gazing day with the Brave Artists in Bury St Edmunds, as artist Jo Chapman invited them to study how Constable found shapes and colour in clouds.
In the course of a few short hours, the students moved from creating dramatic 2D charcoal illustrations of clouds to 3D models, using cardboard and waste paper, masking tape and lots of Modroc.
Constable found so many colours in the sky; it’s only when you start to study his pictures that you realise just how much is going on. The Brave Artists did just that, and then set to with palettes of purples and bright greens, creating stunning watercolour images of storm-lashed beaches, hope-inspiring rainbows and what may possibly be the beginning of the universe as we know it.
