Wild About Kirkley Winter Lantern Parade

As part of First Light’s Winter Fayre at East Point Pavilion, Suffolk Artlink’s Wild About Kirkley project initiated a winter lantern parade to celebrate the wonderful work of participants over the last year.

Throughout November, the lead artists Kasia Posen and Carrie Phoenix (The Third Person) worked with talented artists Willow Phoenix to deliver inspiring sessions for our Wild About Kirkley participants; children from local school, Red Oak Primary; and students from Suffolk Artlink’s Brave Art programme in Lowestoft.

Using the project’s theme of Soil and Land, the artists created a combination of individual lanterns for all the participants, alongside some larger, special lanterns that represented our Community Garden and the project’s theme.

On the 2nd of December 2022 we hosted a festive gathering at The Pantry before setting off at 5pm on the 20 min walk along the seafront to East Point Pavilion.

Over 50 people, holding colourful individual lanterns alongside enormous lanterns in the shapes of a giant tardigrade, seahorse, snail shell and mushrooms, light up the night sky for Kirkley’s first ever winter lantern parade.

The energy was vibrant with two participants serenading us with festive music all the way.

Everyone had such a wonderful time, and we hope to be part of First Light’s Winter Fayre again next year.
